ARTBO
Artbo, The International Art Fair of Bogotá, Colombia, will take place in Corferias, from October 15 to 5–20, 2008. Artbo is organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá. ArtBo comes back in its fourth consecutive year to turn the capital into a commercial platform gathering national and international galleries, artists, curators, art critics, and collectors.
The purpose of the fair is to promote the city of Bogotá internationally and to make it an attractive destination for investors, business, and tourists, which at the same time becomes a factor in encouraging competitiveness in our the region.
This year, Artbo will have four pavilions that extend over more than 10,000 square meters. El Gran Salon (The Great Hall) will be the commercial platform for the galleries; The Pavilion 4 will present the Artecámara exhibit, which will include works by 28 young artists and will also have two parallel exhibits, including Intangible, and a photography exhibit featuring works by the late artist Fernando Fernell Franco. Another novelty is the participation of four important artists, two of whom are Colombian female artists, who will use the exterior space surrounding the pavilions to create their artistic interventions. Pavilion 9 will be occupied by the children from with Pon De Tu Parte (Contribute Your Effort), ; the children’s objectivechildren’s objective is to promote an appreciation for exploration and discovery and the enjoyment of contemporary artistic concepts in a free and spontaneous learning environment. Also, the theme this year at the didactic room will focus on Latin-American identities as seen through the prism of contemporary art.
At the CCB Business Center located in the center of the fair, an important group of curators will share with the public their experiences in the art world, and collectors will talk about how they have come to put their collections together. Among these is are Ella Cisneros, a philanthropist and businesswoman whoentrepreneur who owns an important collection of Latin-American art, and Solita Mishaan, also a collector, who has participated in acquisition committees for several museums.
The Fair also offers a special VIP program for collectors, curators, and art dealers. It will include the participation visit of important institutions, galleries, and private collections.
The Artbo Terminal will serve as the venue for advertising promoting the Fair. The Artbo TV Channel will be launched from the Terminal at 8:00 p.m. every day and will be transmitted by means the channel of Señal Colombia. Artbonoticias, an informative daily newspaper covering the Fair’s activities, will also be produced from the Terminal and will showcase the points of view of several guests who are writers.
This year, Artbo will have a presence in the southern part of the city of Bogotá with the support of the Bienale de Venecia (a biennale organized in a neighborhood of Bogotá named Venecia). It will present a retrospective of artists who havewho have previously participated in the event throughout its existence. For this purpose, a system of buses has been set up to transport the public to the exhibit. The organizations behind the event will also be present at Artbo to showcase this artistic exhibit from the Venecia neighborhood.
Forty seven galleries will be take part in the Fair: 13 national galleries, and 34 international galleries from Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Panama, Venezuela, Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico, the U.S., and Spain.
