Madrid, urban stage for contemporary artistic intervention.

M.A.D.R.I.D.28045, ARTE EN EL ESPACIO URBANO aims to connect the Madrilenian citizens to the practice of artistic intervention in public spaces by organizing public presentations held by experts and professionals of culture and artistic actions in the district of Arganzuela/ Legazpi The proyect seeks to find new ways of cultural (re)presentation in order to establish links between public and traditional artistic spaces (museums, institutions...). The result will be a dialogue between theory, practice and the artistic reception process through two intimately connected activities taking place in a very particular surrounding.

ARTISTIC INTERVENTIONS

Different locations in Arganzuela/ Legazpi (surroundings of the Matadero)

By making the inhabitants take part in their works, the artists integrate their artistic practice into the the everyday life of the Arganzuela quarter in Legazpi. With the iconic landscape of Madrid as an important point of reference, the development of the artistic concepts is based on information about social, demografic, and economic matters.  (For further information on time and places see www.madrid45.net)

Actions and Performances (Saturday 24 to sunday 25 march)

Tamara Arroyo (Madrid): “Entrejuegos” - “Between-plays” (participative installation)

Applying popular children’s games, Arroyo’s work seeks to recover the memory of the industrial past of the Legazpi quarter.

Julien Collieux (Marseille/Berlin): “International” (concert/performance)

The art work is a musical performance with simple and ephemeral methods starting from a score of the theme La Internacional by Pierre Degeyter drawn on the floor. The actors will be people living in the district of Arganzuela.

Roberto Equisoain (Berlin): “FE (evaporada)´” - “FAITH (evaporated)” (action)

By writing the word FE (faith) with different techniques, the artist appropiates the square of Legazpi, which is the city’s main access point.

Berit Hummel (Leipzig/Berlin): “Limpieza” -“Cleaning” (performance)

A choreography incorporating people working in town environmental services and their tools to reflect on the worth and dignity of work.

Patrick Jambon (Lyon/Berlin): “Grand Tourisme” (participative installation)

The artist will travel the streets of Legazpi joined by a bike with an incorporated video game, urging the passers-by to take part in the game and imitate the movements on the screen in order to cuestion one’s freedom in spending his/her leisure time.

Installations (friday 23 march to friday 20 april)

Luis Fernández Pons / Jasmina Llobet (Barcelona/Berlin): “El sombrero” – “The hat”

These two artists will construct a huge cowboy hat on a piece of waste land to question the growing real estate speculations in the quarter of Legazpi.

Eleni Papaioannou (Athens): “Heterotopía”

The artist will create an installation with visual and sound effects in a public space starting from a concept of the paradise garden in which real spaces mingle with imaginary ones. The work basically consists of communicating water plants and interviews held with the neighbours of Arganzuela / Legazpi on the question what an ideal landscape should be like.
